5 GREAT Design Tips For Your Nursery

Select your key items, such as furniture for your nursery, first. It's easier to match paint to furniture then the other way around.

Choose soft and muted colors to help achieve a calming effect.

Think about safety when hanging items such as shelves, mirrors or wall decor in your nursery. Be sure they are securely fastened to the wall. Ask your hardware store for security mounts hardware.

And in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada cars frozen solid to the ground! Wow! Now that is COLD!!

As the new year begins...

What a year 2013 turned out be. It was truly amazing! With the arrival of our first grandchild our hearts grew 10 sizes that day and continues to grow with each sweet smile we see. It was also a BIG year for Phyllis Harris Designs as we continue to grow with the help of all of you, my amazing friends and customers! So once again I want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

Over the Christmas holiday I did find a few spare moments to create a new painting. Although this new print would work well for many occasions, I added the text with the expectant mother in mind. Most of the new mothers that I know would tell you that they loved their little one before they even met them. This art print would make a perfect addition to any little girl's nursery and would also make a great baby shower gift for the expectant mother who knows they will be having a little girl. Start a new Christmas tradition!

As a child, one of my favorite Christmas traditions every year was to gather round my siblings and my older sister would read The Night Before Christmas right before we went to bed on Christmas eve. My mother still has that copy of our beloved book and although the pages are falling out, you can tell it was a very used love-worn book.

Many of you know that I have a precious new grand daughter this Christmas and I hope to start our own family tradition with her by reading Margaret Wise Brown's On Christmas Day to her every Christmas season.

What a blessing it was to be asked to illustrate the lyrical words of Margaret Wise Brown. To see more about how this book came about be sure to read this blog post or here as well.
