I finally got around to painting this piece in traditional watercolor so I could compare the one I had done previously in digital watercolor. I know which I prefer...how about you?
I love this Phyllis!!! Beautiful color scheme and that doggie is so adorable!
You make it so hard to choose one! I honestly don't know which I like better.
I love the feeling of your line work against the washes and the strong values of the watercolor version. But then on your digital one, I love the brightness and lighting. Makes it a happier piece.
Phyllis I am with Alicia. . .it's really hard to say which I really like better. Both are very strong pieces and both have definite strengths. Love the movement in this. You can just feel the little girl pushing on the peddle.
It's a tuffy -- but, I decided I like the traditional watercolor one the best. As wonderful as digital medium is, the watercolor feels so "classic" to me. I love the overlapping washes at the top of the sky. This is amazing.
oh! I really love the traditional watercolor... my art prof from college got me addicted to textures... so I think thats my reason
this doesn't make much sense, but have you tried overlaying the two in the computer? it is a silly notion since it's twice the work... but I'm crazy about texture
I tried it once and using a mask in photoshop, I was able to have the vibrant colors of the digital with texture of the traditional... gave interesting depth
oh man... now I'm liking the digital.. your choice, I like em both!!!
This is something I have been doing a lot of lately. And when I compare the two, traditional and digital I am always amazed at how much I like each version but for different reasons. For me, at least right now I am loving the painting process in watercolor and transparent acrylics, but I like the options that I have and the brilliance of the digital versions.
Each of your paintings are just lovely and I think either way there is a freedom in your work that is delightful.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the rest... both are very cool paintings...

I like them both, but the watercolour one wins overall. Something special about seeing the way you handle the washes.
ReplyDeleteMaybe scan the watercolour one and try just a little Photoshop magic with it to get a hybrid!
